A black day for Slovak skiing: The season has ended for Petra Vlhová

Thousands of fans came to support her and created a fantastic atmosphere on the slope below Mt Chopok, but could enjoy their favourite on the course only for a few seconds. Petra Vlhová had an ugly fall in the first giant slalom run of the World Cup in Jasná, was stopped by safety nets and got injured. She was transported by rescuers to the Central Military Hospital in Ružomberok, where negative prognoses were confirmed, unfortunately.

“Petra’s ligaments in the right knee are damaged. This season is definitely over for her,” informed her Swiss coach Mauro Pini at a media briefing. “She is being taken care of by doctors who specialise in this type of injury,” added Richard Galovič, the manager of the team.

The black day of Slovak skiing in Jasná became more tragic after the fall of Adam Žampa as a forerunner. He fell in the same place as Petra and ended up in hospital too.
