Swiss skier Michelle Gisin, 30, is also part of the starting lineup for the World Cup in Jasna. The versatile skier had already skied in Jasna during the Junior World Championships ten years ago. "I didn't do very well back then," she admitted after the first training under Chopok.
Even three years ago, during the coronavirus pandemic when spectators were noticeably absent from the slope, she didn't make it to the top three in the giant slalom or slalom. While eighth and fifth places were not bad results, Michelle herself wanted more.
What is she most proud of?
Since then, however, a lot of time has passed, and today Gisin is a two-time Olympic champion and a medalist from the World Championships. "But what I'm most proud of is that I made it to the podium at least three times in each discipline. That's something I've always wanted," she revealed with a satisfied tone.
She is also pleased with her three Olympic medals, although she states in the same breath, "There could have been more. Look at how Shiffrin and Vlhova keep achieving success. But I am certainly not disappointed. I have achieved more in my career than I ever dared to dream."
Eleven seasons in the World Cup circuit have changed her view of skiing. "I no longer ski for results; I ski for joy. And I enjoy every race. In the World Cup, it's almost always fun. It was even last Tuesday in Flachau. The races were dramatic, and I had to save a pole I almost lost. I really enjoyed it," she says.
Slovak fans are crazy
Gisin believes she will also enjoy the upcoming weekend. "It will be a big thing, especially for Petra. I see how Slovak fans follow her everywhere. In this regard, they are really crazy," says the girlfriend of Italian skier Luca de Aliprandini. They have been a couple for many years, and Michele has only words of praise for him. "It's really great fun with him," she adds with a mischievous look in her eyes.
